Client – “I think you took it and it got donated. I mean you were handling the book donations.”

Me – “I’m sorry your address book is missing, but I did advise you to store any personal items you did not want to touch in this bin here. If it’s not in there I can’t explain why. I did not donate it. I only donate the items you tell me are donations and you put into the box. I had an issue with some dolls that got donated on accident last year in a mixed communication with a client and we have processes in place where that’s not going to happen again. If you put it in the donation box, it’s gone.”

Client – “I know you didn’t mean to, but I think you took it to the charity.”

Client – “I don’t want you touching anything else because I don’t want to lose anymore than my address book.”

Me – “I’m going to take my equipment now.  If you don’t trust us, we are not coming back to this job and you can hire someone else.”

Client – “Please come back. I’m sorry. I just don’t know what to do with myself without my address book.”

Me – “It’s ok.  I understand.”

Client via text – “I found my address book!”

Me – “Where was it???”

Client – “In the sock homework bins you gave me. I think I put it there.”

Me – ?

Client – “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. You kept telling me it would show up. I will never doubt you again. I’m so sorry I gave you such a hard time. Can I buy you and Valerie presents?”

Me – “Geez, no! Please don’t go shopping, we are good. This happens more often than you think so you could say I’ve been through this before. Just glad you found it. Now please put it in the bin!”
